This talk by Andrea Spadaccini from Microsoft shares some key lessons learned from his 10 years of experience as an SRE at Google and Microsoft. He shares about goals of the SRE, Shared ownership and cultural aspects of the SRE organization.
2. SLOconf: SLOs & Observability - better together - by Liz Fong-Jones
This talk from Liz Fong, is the story of the missing pieces, unexpected pitfalls, and how Honeycomb solved those problems.
3. SLOconf: SLO Math - by Steve McGhee
In this talk, Steve McGhee explains the SLO Math and why SLOs should be set as per your customer expectations. How to think about your dependencies and how their SLOs affect your own.
4. AWS re:Invent 2021 - Amazon Builders’ Library: Operational Excellence at Amazon
Operational excellence at Amazon is achieved through a DevOps model, where software development teams operate the systems they build. David Yanacek, Senior Principal Engineer, describes Amazon’s operational practices that he has observed during his 15 years of building and operating services at Amazon.
5. SREcon21 - Beyond Goldilocks Reliability
Reliability engineering is still in its infancy, with best practices stemming largely from community experiences and hard knocks. SRE practices, including alerting and SLOs, are built around subjective thresholds—institutionalizing an esoteric model of reliability. Increasingly, the cracks in this approach are showing this Goldilocks approach to be insufficient.
